French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review
French-door refrigerators are a perfect blend of form and function. They feature stylish double doors that show an enormous fridge on top and a freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out because of their distinctive features, like door-to-door dispensers and more expensive Ice makers.
We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the best one. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency as well as other aspects.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technology in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive and I expected more.
This fridge is a good choice, despite the small blip. It has a large freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Additionally, it holds a fair amount of frozen food when in comparison to similar models.
Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for an French door refrigerator that costs this much. It comes with a decent size icemaker in the left door. But it's not the most spacious one I've seen.
You can alter the shelves in each compartment to create a custom storage setup for what you want to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive, too. Its LED lighting is a nice addition, and the in-door storage bins come with the third shelf, which folds up beneath itself so that you can store large items. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their textured plastic coatings to be a bit hard on the fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from any place in the globe. It also has numerous options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.
It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill it's an option in a handful of other GE refrigerators that allows you to choose how many cups of water you'd like to dispense simultaneously. It also has a countdown feature on the display of the fridge to display how much water you have left, but it's not as useful as Precise fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Designed to look as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and two compressors to preserve food items. The ice maker is one of the best we've ever tested and produces pyramid-shaped Ice with low water consumption. This fridge is the perfect choice for single household or kitchenettes that want a built-in look and top-of-the-line food preservation.
This fridge was rated as the top in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0°F and never fluctuated more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to prevent freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within a matter of hours, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.
Bosch is a household name known for its high-end appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that the Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's platform Home Connect. This app allows you to control and monitor your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is expensive, but it offers top-quality features and functions for the price.
While the fridge is an amazing appliance however, it is important to understand the limitations. It is possible to be creative with tall objects because the fridge is limited in shelf space. french style fridge freezer are not spillproof and can easily be stained or damaged by sharp items. The trays are easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they must be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great option for those who require plenty of space in a small frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features the standard French-door layout, with gallon-sized door bins on each door and two rows of shelves for spill-capture and a set of more spacious drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You'll also find a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it easy to transfer the frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers to help you better organize the placement of items. It also comes with a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food and a separate ice storage bin.
Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a simple method to keep track of your refrigerator and manage it, especially when you're away from home.
The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't enhance the performance of the fridge. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill food in this refrigerator than other refrigerators we tested. This is probably due to its bigger capacity.
The doors pose a problem with this fridge. They have handles that are sunken on the front, which allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to guide closed without slamming the doors. It would have been better if they came with a front-mounted handles.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a excellent option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door fridge's aesthetics with an efficient layout. It has a capacity that is superior to counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also a bit less than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which can make it a popular choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
If you're looking for an French door refrigerator that won't cost you a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a basic fridge that might not be as attractive like some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make a good option. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.
Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer allows you to redirect the majority of your fridge's cooling power to this area so that you can store foods that require special attention. You can alter this feature by using the slider located on the in the middle of the drawer. It is also possible to use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the whole fridge, but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.
During my tests, I found that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a pretty good performance, but it doesn't quite be among the top in our ratings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to an intelligent thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.
The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
